The police in Zombo are on a man hunt for relatives of 78-year-old Matilda Ongur, a resident of Kalangojo village who are said to have murdered her in cold blood before running away to the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo.
The North Western Region police spokesperson
Josephine Angucia, said Matilda’s decomposing body was recovered from her house by police on Tuesday on a tip off by a resident who contacted them after smelling a heavy stench coming from the deceased’s house.
Ongur is suspected to have been killed her relatives on accusations of practicing witchcraft. According to Angucia, they have launched a manhunt for the suspected masterminds of the murder.
“It took time for police to discover about her death since the suspects could not inform police on time. So when the scene was visited, a postmortem was done to her body which was already rotting and the inquiries have kicked off so as to arrest the suspects who murdered her,” Angucia said.
She added; “As I speak, there are about 2 prime suspects who are on the run at the rightful time when they come back from their hiding places in the democratic republic of Congo, they will be arrested and prosecuted for taking laws in their hands.”
