The body of the Kampala International University (KIU) was discovered on Tuesday in the swamps adjacent in Nakimese zone, Nsangi, Wakiso district.

Her body was tied with ropes, her dress was torn to shreds and there was blood on her legs, suggesting that she was raped and murdered.

Quoting the Police post-mortem report, Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Patrick Onyango confirmed the new findings that Kyakunda died hours after the procedure. "She suffered massive internal bleeding into her abdominal cavity," he added.

Onyango said investigations are underway to establish which 'doctor and clinic' that facilitated the botched abortion.

Kyakunda was a first year evening student pursuing a diploma in public administration.

Collagues said Kyakunda on Tuesday stayed at the University up to about 10:00pm before heading for rented residence, a kilometer away from the University campus.

When we called her for the morning jogging routine, her phone was switched off," Kakunda's friend who identified herself only as Mutesi, said.

Burial is scheduled for today at her parents' home in Kiruhura.

According to a Police report, a total of 2,578 cases of abortion were investigated in 2014.
