MTN Uganda, the leading telecommunications company in the country, is proud to announce the successful conclusion of the 2023 Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom Enganda Football Tournament. The tournament, generously sponsored by MTN Uganda, brought together the vibrant communities of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom for a thrilling display of talent and unity. The championship match, held at Booma Grounds in Hoima City, was an intense clash between the Abasaigi Clan from Kibaale District and the Abahango Clan from Hoima District. The match ended in a spectacular penalty shootout, with Abasaigi Clan emerging as the champions with a 5-4 victory.
Abel Mwesigye, the Western Region Business Manager for MTN Uganda, expressed his delight in being part of this remarkable event. He stated, "MTN Uganda is committed to supporting cultural and sports activities that bring our communities together. This tournament showcases the rich talent and heritage of Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom, and we are honored to be a part of it. We believe in fostering unity and empowering the youth through sports, and this tournament has been a testament to that."
The Kingdom's Prime Minister, Mr. Andrew Byakutanga, attended the prestigious finals as the chief guest, along with other distinguished ministers from the Kingdom. He praised the impact of the Enganda Football tournament on the community and expressed his hope for the future, saying, "This tournament has not only been a celebration of our culture but a platform for our youth to showcase their talents. We want to see more clans participate in subsequent tournaments, and we aim to promote unity and harness the talents of our youth for the Kitara and National teams."
In addition to the football championship, the Bunyoro Kitara Kingdom also hosted an exciting bicycle race tournament, featuring participants from all 15 counties of the Kingdom. The top honors went to Ali Mugaya in the men's category and Jennifer Kusemererwa in the women's category, both of whom received cash prizes from MTN Uganda.
