Musician Jackie Chandiru battled addiction, which nearly cost her life after years of struggle and depression.

The singer revealed that what hurt her the most was being forgotten by Ugandans during her darkest moments.

She explained that negative stories about her were widespread in the media, causing her immense psychological pain.

“Before I decided to check into rehab, everyone forgot about me. You know, the world moves on—that’s what people struggling with addiction don’t realize. They think they’re indispensable, but the truth is, life goes on. It deeply affected me to feel forgotten. It tortured me psychologically, and I continued with the addiction, trying to kill myself because that’s what everyone expected,” she shared during an interview with Suzan Makula.

Chandiru, however, remains grateful to God for overcoming addiction and for having a chance to rebuild her life.
