The mother of the late Muhammad Ssegirinya, Justine Nakajjumba, has criticised the National Unity Platform leadership for overlooking her son’s former aide, Muhammad Luswa Luwemba, in the party’s selection process for the upcoming Kawempe North parliamentary by-election.
Nakajjumba accused the party of betrayal for choosing a different person and leaving out Alex Luwemba Luswa, who she believes is capable of completing Segirinya's manifesto.
Alex Luwemba Luswa lost the NUP primaries, and NUP awarded the party ticket to city lawyer Elias Nalukoola.
“I am deeply hurt by the betrayal from NUP leaders. Luswa was my son’s right-hand man and understood his vision. He deserves the opportunity to continue his legacy, at least to finish his term,” she said during the Duwa Prayers held to commemorate 40 days since Muhammad Ssegirinya's demise.
The Duwa Prayers took place in Kadugala Masaka and were attended by top opposition politicians, including NUP Secretary General Lewis Rubongoya, who emphasized the party's commitment to Segirinya's children.
Alex Luwemba Luswa is contesting independently after losing the party flag. Kawempe North will go to the polls on the thirteenth of this month.
