Veteran journalist and longtime host of VOA's Straight Talk Africa, Shaka Ssali, died on Wednesday, March 27, at the age of 71.

Before his death, it is alleged he left a will asking to be cremated. He requested his relatives to bring part of his ashes back to Uganda and leave the rest in America, where he had lived for a long time.

His cremation date has been announced, and the veteran journalist will be cremated next week on April 9.

"The cremation of Dr. Shaka Ssali and public viewing will take place on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Jefferson Funeral Chapel 5755 Castlewellan Dr. Alexandria, VA 22315 Family, friends, and well-wishers are invited to pay their respects and celebrate his life," revealed NTV's Sudhir Byaruhanga, a relative of Shaka Ssali, through a post on his Facebook.
