The Police in Kampala are investigating multiple shootings at the home of Mamerito Mugerwa, the former Mayor of Kiira Division in Wakiso district that left him injured.
Mamerito was rushed to Nakasero Hospital where he is currently admitted after he was hit on the head by the unknown assailants outside his home on Wednesday night.
In his statement, Mamerito says he was attacked by the armed assailants at around 8pm as he entered his home.
"They attacked me but I made an alarm, they tried to shoot me but luckily the bullet did not touch me. My wife opened the gate and I ran inside the compound. They followed me as I entered inside the house. That is when I removed my pistol and shot at them and they escaped," reads part of Mamerito's statement.
The Kampala Metropolitan Police spokesperson, Emilian Kayima, says they are investigating the shooting. "We are trying to establish what exactly happened, who were these attackers. Is it true they shot at him before he fired? These are issues that the investigations will have to establish," Kayima said.
While Mamerito claims to have been in his car at the time of the attack, his car was found intact at his residence. Mamerito is a licensed fire arm user. However, his license can be revoked should it be established he acted recklessly
