A 37-year-old man in Mbarara is in trouble for killing his ex-wife and handing himself in to police after a botched suicide attempt.
the suspect has been identified as Edson Mwebaze, a resident of Kyantamba village in Bubaare sub-county who handed himself to Bubaare Police station at 7 pm last night after failing to take his own life as well.
He used a panga to kill his estranged wife Judith Arinaitwe, 35, a resident of Kifufu village in Mbarara District.
Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson Samson Kasasira told the press that Arinaitwe bled to death after the attack, and her body was found with multiple cuts on her head and arms. The panga used in the crime was recovered and exhibited as the murder weapon.
According to Kasasira, the duo separated in February 2021 after misunderstandings resulting from domestic violence. The suspect told the police that he was angry when the wife left him for another man, stolen their working capital of 350,000 Shillings, merchandise and property generated during their five-year marriage.
The suspect has been transferred to custody at Central Police Station Mbarara for prosecution and the deceased’s body taken to Mbarara regional referral hospital mortuary for postmortem.
