The authorities in Rukungiri have arrested Medad Musinguzi alias Nsenga Francis a 21-year-old resident of Omukashanda village Nyabushenyi parish Nyarushanje sub county Rukungiri district, for alleged kidnap of a three years old child identified as Aroni Atukunda a pupil at Excel centre community nursery school.
The victim is a son to Alex Ankunda a resident of the same address.
It's alleged that on the 06/02/2023, at about 1700hrs, at Omukashanda village, the suspect who was a casual laborer in that home, allegedly kidnapped the victim and called the victim's father using his number 0776563047 and asked for a ransom of 1.5m Ugandan shillings as a condition for the child’s release.
ASP Maate Elly the PRO Kigezi says that the child’s father made a report at police and inquiries commenced. The victim was rescued and suspect arrested from his hideout through phone tracking on 07/02/2023 at about 1800hrs from Kinaba village in Kanungu district.
The victim was medically examined and handed over to his parents while in good condition.
Maate added that inquiries are ongoing and upon completion, he will be arraigned before courts of law to answer charges accordingly.
