Nicki Minaj and Rihanna have not been seeing eye to eye for quite some time now. And speculations have been pointing to numerous sources as the root of their rivalry, ranging from their battle for supremacy in the hip-hop world to fighting over Drake.
Going back to 2012, when their feud first came to light, it was rumored that during the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards, Nicki Minaj, who is known to be feisty by nature, told Rihanna to “sit the f*** down” when she attempted to hug her upon being nominated for the Best Female Video award for her song “Starships,” as reported by MTV.
“The news is confusing, considering that Nicki, Rihanna and Katy Perry snapped a smiling picture together, but according to a tweet from Cannatella, Minaj told Rihanna to ‘sit the f— down’ when she tried to hug her for winning Best Female Video for ‘Starships.’ While RiRi lost in the same category for ‘We Found Love,’ she eventually won Video of the Year for the same song.”
Later on, Nicki Minaj denied during an episode of My Truth on E! that she told Rihanna to sit down. She attacked celebrity news blogger Perez Hilton for his allegation. The following is an excerpt of the report by Capital FM.
“…During the premiere episode of the singer’s new reality TV show, she could be seen addressing gossip blogger Perez Hilton over his reports of the story. She said: ‘Can I just say this? I’m sick of you printing lies. I want to know if you guys believe what you put on there?… So you believe that I told Rihanna to ‘sit yo a*s down’,’ added Nicki. “No, I never told Rihanna to sit her a*s down.”
Fast forward to current events and Meek Mill, Nicki Minaj’s boyfriend, recently released the remix to “All The Way Up” dissing Drake, who is presently rumored to be dating Rihanna. Meek Mill included a line in the track that seemed to suggest that he had at one time had an affair with Rihanna. The following is the line.
“And that chick standin’ right beside you, I done popped that, made me beat a fan up, I’m feelin’ like I’m Arttest… Gold mic from the billboards, ’bout to plug it up!”
He also didn’t forget to point out that Drake never wrote his own raps. The following were the lines in his track related to this.
“This is hip-hop / You ain’t write it, don’t record it / I don’t know how they gettin’ down ‘cross the border / Views from the projects / N***a I’m the prospect.”
From the supposed lines about Riri, it seems that Rihanna may have had a history with Meek Mill, although this should be taken with a pinch of salt considering that it was a song deliberately made to diss Drake. However, one can’t simply ignore the fact that it was in 2012 when Nicki and Rihanna were reported to be feuding, and in 2013, Minaj and Meek were posting pictures of them together on Instagram. That said, Nicki Minaj and Rihanna’s last collaboration was in 2011 for the song “Fly”.
