Saturday was the day for all DJs in Arua to shine as Uganda Waragi took the UG Mix Maestro campaign to Northern Uganda. The rain wasn’t a hindrance for the determined DJs who were enthusiastic to show their skill set. The regional DJ battle was unnerving for most of the contestants, but the coaching from renowned female professional DJ Lolah went a long way in helping the young DJs find their footing. At the end of the night, DJ Suz Beats and DJ Titi emerged Arua’s Best Female and Best Male Battle DJ of the Year at the event, hosted at Heritage Courts in Arua.

After being briefly coached by DJ Lola, a female professional who has been in the deejay and music business since 2015, the participants who had registered to take part in the deejay challenge were required to mix a set of 4 songs in 5 minutes. The event’s three judges, renowned DJ Ricky Star, popular female deejay MaryJo and Arua One producer and presenter, DJ Love credited the two winners for their confidence on the stage and being able to balance their technique and skill.

Female winner and crowd favorite, DJ Suz Beats, real names Susan Ongaria couldn’t hide her excitement after her win. “I fell in love with the turntables a little over a year ago. I do weekly rehearsals in Kampala, and I look forward to a time when my name comes top of the list.” She expressed her gratitude towards Uganda Waragi and the DJ Association of Uganda for having made the competition possible, and said she looked forward to another big win come October.

The other participants in the challenge who walked away with Uganda Waragi hampers were deejays Prince, Dranix and Poppa who completed in 2nd, 3rd and 4th positions.

The UG Mix Maestro’s next stop will be Fort Portal on Saturday this weekend. All regional winners will compete at the campaign’s grand finale on October 6, 2017 at Golf Course Hotel in Kampala where the Best Male and Best Female DJ of the Year stand a chance to walk home each with their own DJ set worth over Ugx 40m.
