Douglas Lwanga faced backlash from NBS viewers after he wore a T-shirt branded with “All Lives Matter”, a theme on their late night show dubbed Saturday Night Live(SNL). He was trying to show solidarity with anti-racism movements following the death of George Floyd, a black man who died in Minneapolis, Minnesota after white police officer, Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for almost nine minutes as he was handcuffed and lying face down on the street.
Many interpreted this as a direct attack on the #Blacklives matter movement.
"Douglas has always been a hypocrite after Tweeting #blacklivesmatter for a week, he comes with #alllivesmatter. This hypocrisy Should Stop," a one Evelyn tweeted showing her displeasure with Douglas Lwanga.
a one +256Kizza, also tweeted castigating Douglas Lwanga for being Ignorant about what the Blacks are facing in America and Europe at large.
"We thought being a Journalist, one has to be informed but Douglas has proved us wrong. We can do better than this and I am really fade up of the mediocre Content from these TV's," a one +256Kizza tweeted.
Many viewers alleged that the idea of #Alllivesmatter was fronted by Douglas at the station and that is why he came along to host the NBSSL show he has never presented before.
NBS TV later apologised to its audiences for the act and they said it wasn't their intention to attack the #Blacklivesmatter movement.
NBS TV team seemed to have no idea that the All Lives Matter is a slogan that's associated with criticism of the
Black Lives Matter movement.
The statement read, "Tonight on #NBSSNL, we rubbed many of our viewers, local and international, the wrong way when our team moved to don t-shirts labelled “All Lives Matter.” This was NOT our intention, and the outcome is far from what is expected of us. We shall do better. #BlackLivesMatter".
