The Watoto Church, formerly known as the Kampala Pentecostal church, and the government are at odds over the proposed demolition of the historical Norman Cinema building.
Watoto Church aims to replace the building with a 12-storeyed structure that will include a 3,000-seater auditorium, a shopping center, a youth center, and a three-star hotel. The Norman Cinema building, located in the heart of Kampala city along Kampala road, was established in the 1940s by an Indian businessman named Norman Godinho.
Watoto Church, with the help of a multinational architectural firm, Symbion Uganda Limited, released a plan that called for the demolition of the Norman Cinema building to make way for a 2,000-seater conference center, retail space, and a three-star hotel, among other functions for business and recreation.
