Dancehall musician Ziza Bafana says music managers and promoters are to blame for Ugandan music's failure to go international.
The singer explained that no one should be blaming artists, as is currently the case. He believes the blame should fall on managers and promoters because they are responsible for various tasks on behalf of the artists.
He elaborated that managers and promoters should be doing more to export Ugandan music, but they are currently not fulfilling this role effectively.
"You blame everything on the artists for failing to go international, but look at the wider picture of the whole industry. We don't have the right managers to do the right job, and Ugandan promoters and managers have failed to do it internationally. It's their responsibility, but instead, they are focused here [locally]," he explained in a video circulating online.
Bafana's comments come at a time when various artists, including Bebe Cool, Joshua Baraka, and Elijah Kitaka, are focused on taking Ugandan music to the next level, and all signs show there is hope for the industry to break through internationally.
