The National environment management authority, NEMA Inspectors and Environmental Police have today afternoon demolished all illegal structures and gardens in Lubigi Wetland in areas of Kikaya & Bulenga.

According to a statement on the NEMA social media page, encroachers on the Lubigi Wetland had planted over 100acres of maize, cassava, yams & sweet potatoes.

Initially, NEMA had warned the encroachers to leave the wetland through community & mass media.

The authority issued a directive as provided for in the national environment Act Cap. 153 that all people residing and taking illegal activities in Lubigi-mayanja wetland and other wetlands should leave, of be forced to move, arrested and prosecuted according to the law.

Meanwhile, Residents surrounding the Lubigi Wetland claim they have no idea who the encroachers are.
