The Catholic secretariat, the diocese of Kiyinda-Mityana,  Uganda tourism board, the ministry of tourism Wildlife and antiquities, together with the Anglican church of Uganda have organized a walk for the general public, dubbed “the walk of  faith” ahead of 3rd June Martyrs day celebrations.

The walk is scheduled to take place this Sunday 22nd May 2016 starting from Munyonyo Catholic Martyrs shrine at 8:00am to St. Matiya Mulumba Catholic Parish Old Kampala.

Announcing the development at Media center this morning, Stephen Asiimwe, the Chief Executive Officer UTB said the walk is in celebration of 130 years since the youthful martyrs gave up their lives for their faith.

“In fulfillment of the key strategic objective of the tourism Act 2008, UTB runs domestic tourism promotion campaigns to popularize attractions and events in Uganda. This year, UTB is working with the Catholic Church Secretariat and other stakeholders to organize the Martyrs walk. The theme of the walk is “Walking in the Foosteps of the Martyrs,” Asiimwe said.

Rev. Fr. Lazarus Kiggundu, the pastoral coordinator Kiyinda- Mityana Diocese also told the press that the chief walker will be Ms. Maria Mutagamba, the mister of Tourism, wildlife and antiquities.

The walk will run from Munyonyo Martyrys shrine, Munyonyo, to St. Denis Ssebugwawo, Munyonyo, St. Ponsiano Ngondwe, Salama road, St. Jean Marie Mzee, Kisenyi, Kampala, St. Joseph Mukasa Balikuddembe, Nakivubo, Kampala, St. Athathius Bazzekuketta, Nakivubo, Kampala, and end at St. Matia Mulumba, Old Kampala.

The walk will also be attended by Bishop Anthony Zziwa, the Bishop of Kiyinda – Mityana Diocese & Vice chairperson of the Uganda Episcopal Conference, Bishop Mpalanyi Nkoyoyo – former Archbishop of the church of Uganda, Msgr. John B Kauta – General Secretary of the Episcal Conference, Fr. Joseph Muwonge – Spokesperson of the Uganda Martyrs Episcopal conference and many more dignitaries from both the catholic Church and church of Uganda.
