The Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda has this morning opening of the National Records and Archives center in Kampala.

The facility located on plot 8-9 Lourdel Road, adjacent to the Ministry of Health Headquarters cost government 2.3 billion shillings with funding from the World Bank.

During today’s function, the Prime minister said Archives and records are the heart and heritage of a nation.

“We are glad that we now have a facility where these will be securely stored for reference and posterity” he added.

Uganda has been the only Country in East Africa and the Common wealth lacking a standard Records Centre and Archives, making it difficult for the country to effectively preserve and manage the national documented heritage for research and historical values and also benefits from the global institutional networking.
