Editors affiliated to four media houses of The Daily Monitor, The Observer, Red Pepper and Uganda Radio Network (URN) will on Wednesday October 5th 2016, appear before the Committee on Rules, Privileges and Discipline.
Parliament was a few weeks back angry with media coverage they consider negative against the prestigious house claiming the Editors run stories they consider critical of the institution of parliament.
The intense debate forced Speaker Rebecca Kadaga to direct the Rules Committee to charge the faulted media houses with contempt of Parliament and file a report to the House within two weeks.
However, only one media house, “The Observer” has confirmed receipt of the summons.
The Daily Monitor says it will be required to explain the expose about Parliament budgeting to spend Shs68 million as burial costs for an MP and the story regarding the award of medals to former Forum for Democratic Change Presidential candidate, Dr Kizza Besigye and his wife, Winnie Byanyima.
On the other hand, Uganda Radio Network and The Observer will be grilled over the story that claimed that 78 MPs travelled to the US to attend the UNAA convention at a cost of Shs2 billion, figures Parliament denies.
