Pepsi has injected funds to the tune of sh185 million into this year’s Independence Day Golf Tournament in support of preparations and the awards dinner.
The Pepsi Independence Day Golf Tourney which is scheduled to take place between 7th and 9th October 2016 will be held at the luxurious Palm Valley Golf and Country Club in the Akright Kakungulu Housing Estate on Entebbe Road.
Announcing this year’s sponsorship, Mr Brandon Ssemanda, the Head of Marketing at Crown Beverages Limited (CBL), said that this sponsorship will cover course preparation, publicity, refreshments, prizes and player kits, among others.
“We want to make the tournament more exciting than the previous editions. The course has already been prepared, the player kits are ready, we are all set for 9th October,” said Ssemanda. “Pepsi is one of the world’s leading brands at the forefront of sports and this sponsorship provides a perfect platform for the brand to invite and inspire fans to Live for Now. It also provides an opportunity for us to interact with our customers in a relaxed environment,” he explained.
More than 120 professional golfers will participate in the golf tourney at Palm Valley to mark Uganda’s 54th Independence anniversary.
“We have over 120 golfers who have expressed interest in the tournament and it’s just the beginning of the week. We expect more to come on board. The tournament is going to be very competitive at all levels,” Ssemanda added.
Pepsi has been sponsoring the Independence Golf Tournament since 2011. This is the 5th edition Pepsi is sponsoring. This involvement in golf is a testament of Pepsi’s support to sports development.
Sheraton Kampala Hotel, Mukwano Group, Stanbic Bank (U) Ltd, ICEA, Uganda Breweries Limited, Brand Active, Manjushree Technopack Ltd, Milly Glass Works, Clarkson Insurance Brokers Ltd, Equity Bank (U) Ltd are some of the co-sponsors of the tournament.
Last year, Enock Nuwagaba scored the highest points in the men’s category and Evelyne Asiimwe emerged the best in the women’s category.
Crown Beverages Limited, through its various brands, supports various sports in the country including football, motocross, cricket, and volleyball.
