The Uganda Human Rights Commissions has launched an investigation into circumstances under which three police officers in Lwengo tortured a 12-year-old boy who was mistakenly arrested for alleged phone theft.

The troubled officers are Emmanuel Egwang, Moses Ogule and one only identified as Alibu. These are accused of torturing an innocent minor who had been reported by businessman George Kaliisa for suspected theft of a smartphone.

The boy was beaten and severely injured by these merciless officers on October 12.

The victim’s father, Elif Nzilabatiini says the boy bled excessively and part of his skin ripped off after the incident. However, five hours later the complainant found his phone covered in a couch at his home.

Farouk Nyende, the Regional Human Rights Commission Officer in Masaka says they have taken over the matter.

He says a complaint was filed by Bruce Tushabe from Volunteer Uganda Extra and the parents of the victim accusing the three officers for torture. The implicated officers are required to file their defense within 21 days
