City business man Mathew Kanyamunyu, his girlfriend Cynthia Munwangari and Brother Joseph Kanyamunyu are at High Court in Kampala this morning for hearing of bail application.
This is their second bail application hearing after the first was denied by Justice Elizabeth Kabanda citing failure by Joseph and Cynthia to present a permanent place of residence.
Justice Kabanda also said the suspects in a murder case had not presented Court with serious reasons like advanced age or serious illness that cannot be treated in jail.
However, the accused’s lawyers of Caleb Alaka and Evans Ochieng claim it’s their clients’ right as citizens to be granted bail.
Last week, their case file was assigned to Justice Yasin Nyanzi, from Kabanda, for unknown reasons. The smartly dressed brothers, Mathew and Joseph arrived at High Court minutes after am, while Munwangari arrived a few minutes later.
The trio is accused of shooting dead, a one Kenneth Akena at Lugogo in Kampala. The deceased had allegedly knocked Mathew’s car, and attempted to apologize.
Their last appearance was dramatic as relatives and family members of the late Akena wailed begging the judge not to grant the accused bail. They even attacked Winnie Byanyima, the wife to opposition ironman Kiiza Besigye, also Kanyamunyu’s aunt for standing surety for the brothers.
Scenes at court are still calm.
