Members of Parliament have tasked the Internal Affairs Minister to present a statement concerning the safety of members of parliament following separate grenade attacks on the homes of three legislators.

The issue came up after the Kitgwenda Member of Parliament raised concern over the safety of legislators as a matter of national importance during plenary on Wednesday afternoon.

"There was an arson attack on the home of honorable Gordon Bafaki, the Kazo County MP. Recently on the 28th of September 2017, there was another attack on the home of honorable Moses Kasibante, this time with a grenade" Agaba noted.

Agaba added that as they were still coming to terms with the attack on Kasibante's home, grenade attacks were reported at the homes of Kyadondo East MP, Robert Kyagulanyi and his Makindye East counterpart, Allan Ssewanyana.

He demanded that the Internal Affairs Minister, Jeje Odongo comes and briefs parliament on the attacks and explain the practical steps government is taking to tighten the security of MPs.

The speaker, Rebecca Kadaga noted that the matter raised by the legislator was serious and directed the Internal Affairs Minister to prepare to present a statement to parliament.

However, the Internal Affairs State Minister, Obiga Kania asked the legislators to engage the police stations near their homes in the meantime.
On Wednesday, Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander Frank Mwesigwa, said the pieces of grenades recovered from the MP's homes show that they originated from the same source.

He however, said it was too early to tell the manufacturer or source of the grenades. Mwesigwa said they had handed over the pieces to the Government Analytical Laboratory for examination
