Francis Ameru the Bukomansimbi District Police Commander has been fired over the recent machete attacks. Gen. Kale Kayihura, the Inspector General of Police has replaced Ameru with Isabirye Karooli, the commander in Charge of Operations Nagalama Police Station.
The IGP issued this directive over the weekend in a meeting with Police Commanders from Greater Masaka Region. According to a police officer who attended the meeting, Ameru who has barely been in Bukomansimbi for a month, was blamed for poor command.
"Kayihura said he would release a message for Ameru's deployment soon," the source told said.
At least 7 people have been murdered and more than 47 others injured by machete welding thugs in the district since last year.
Police Spokesperson, Emilian Kayima couldn't be reached for comment by press time.
