At least 17 students of Makerere University have been suspended for alleged exam malpractice, according to Tom Otim, the Registrar College of Education and External Studies – CEES.
Otim notes that the decision to suspend these students was reached at by the School of Distance and Lifelong Learning Examination Malpractices and Irregularities Committees (EMIC) early this month.
Information reaching Howwe.Biz indicates that, five students including Martha Atuheire, Lawrence Kiwika, Sharon Namanya, Angela Awori and Grace Kiyemba were suspended for two academic years for forging examination permits, while four others including Alex Kintu, Elvis Oundo, Ruth Kayaga and Winfred Nnakyeyune were suspended indefinitely for forging examination permits.
A one Oscar Dickson Omeka got suspended indefinitely for exam cheating, while Swabrah Nakyazze, Stella Bila, Racheal Lillian Kanyesigye and Shiforah Orishaba were suspended for a complete academic year for cheating.
Otim adds that the university administration has also canceled the results of Cissy Kanyiginya, Hope Katushabe and Anna Mirembe and cautioned them against cheating.
As the abover mentioned students serve their sentences, another set of 17 have been summoned to appear before the school's Malpractice and Irregularities Committee February 20th at 10:00am without fail to defend themselves against related charges.
It is believed that these students sat papers without authority during last semester examinations. Those summoned include Crescesia Awori, Miriam Namyalo, Hadijah Namuwaya, Jackline Nakiyingi, Peter Mutagwanya and Sidon Bigirwamukama.
The others are; Aggrey Ssali, Phiona Nassanga, Scovia Masia, Santo Iga Edward, Joshua Byamugisha, Lairah Olupa and Esther Namukabya. Also on the list are Bright Mugisa, Kato Hassan Kayemba, Irene Hope Cheruto and Shakira Nakisinsa.
