Gunfire rocked Dr Obote College, Boroboro, in Lira district and there is still a heavy police Presence following a violent strike by students. The rowdy students went on a rampage on Sunday evening vandalizing school properties and the head teacher's premises.

According to reports, the students became rowdy when the school declined to heed to their demand for a disco after a religious function held on Sunday.

However, a student who spoke to howwe.biz said they were mainly protesting the continued stay of the head teacher Fred Kiwanuka whom they accused of maladministration. The student claims this head teacher was unnecessarily strict and had failed to improve their diet.

Students reportedly attacked the home of the school head teacher and pelted stones at the windows and the door panes. Police used tear gas and bullets to disperse the rowdy students.

Robert Abak, the Lira Resident District Commissioner arrived at the school at 9 pm and directed that police remain deployed at the school to restore order and guarantee the safety of people and their property.

Our reporter visited the school this morning, and the situation was calm amid a heavy deployment in all strategic locations in and around the school while persons entering the school campus are subjected to thorough scrutiny.  A staff meeting was also underway at the school.
