The family of former police Flying Squad Unit commandant and head of the Manpower Audit Herbert Muhangi is in panic mode after non-uniformed personnel who identified themselves as operatives from the Chieftaincy of Military Intelligence (CMI) arrested the officer and whisked him to an unknown place.

A well placed family member says Muhangi was arrested last night from his home in Namugongo, when he returned and found his home surrounded by operatives. The family is yet to hear from Muhangi since.

His arrest came just a few minutes after rumors spread on social media that his former boss, Gen. Kale Kayihura had been arrested. The news would later be dismissed by authorities as fake and baseless.

Currently, information about Muhangi’s arrest is still scanty, though, it is said that he was arrested together with former police director Atwooki Nduhura, Cyber Crime Officer Richard Ndaboine and five other officers.

These are reportedly being detained at Makindye Military Barracks.

Asked to comment on the matter, Police spokesperson Emilian Kayima declined saying, "let's wait and see."
