Authorities in Ssembabule district have banned the ‘666’ Cult from carrying out prayers in the area after it was reported to be sabotaging the population and housing census.
The district internal security officer Capt. Muwanga Lutaaya, says most of the followers denounced the cult after the police arrested their leaders. He said the district security authorities stopped the cult’s activities after they started mobilising residents to shun the population census exercise, which kicked off on Thursday.
Noah Sserunjogi, the southern regional police spokesman, said the police last week arrested two leaders of the cult – Nathan Nalisa and Peter Kasita. The two were later produced in Ssembabule Grade One Magistrate’s court and were charged with sabotaging government programmes and consequently remanded to Ssembabule Prison.
