Hell is breaking loose in Ugandan parliament after the opposition Forum for Democratic Change, FDC Party leadership castigated the speaker Rebecca Kadaga for ignoring their choice of members of Parliament's Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (COSASE) committee.
The development comes after the speaker decided that the outgoing committee under the chairmanship of Hon. Abdu Katuntu and Anita Amongi continues with the Bank of Uganda Investigations, report to Parliament and thereafter handover to the new leadership.
"We are not rejecting changes in the leadership of COSASE, we want the current leadership to complete BOU Investigations and make a report to Parliament" Kadaga said.
The term of all parliamentary committees tenure expires on January 13th. However, the new leadership of Hon. Mubarack Munyagwa and Moses Kasibante will have to wait until the current committee finishes with the BOU probe.
On Thursday, Kadaga warned that she is the speaker and can make the decision without any consequences. “I am the head of the institution and I make decisions for the country,” Kadaga. She advised whoever is uncomfortable with her ruling to go to court.
Hon. Ssemujju Nganda the opposition chief whip says Hon. Kadaga wrote to him asking that they wait for Katuntu’s committee to finish the probe, but is now turning around.
Nganda asked Hon. Katuntu to clear the air since he has always been a straight forward person.
The new COSASE has Hon. Munyagwa as the chairperson deputized by Moses Kasibante, while Nganda and Paul Mwiru will be members among others.
