Four people died on spot when a vehicle they were traveling in was involved in an accident on Masaka-Kyotera Road. One other victim died this morning at Kalisizo health centre.
The accident happened at a place called Lukoma on Masaka-Kyotera-Mutukula Road when two vehicles Reg.No.UDE 476G a taxi coming from Mutukula heading to Kyotera was involved in a head on collision with a Toyota Noah Reg.No.UAX 370N.
According to Lameck Kigozi the Southern Region police commander, 4 people died on spot while 7 others were rushed to Kalisizo Health Centre IV in critical condition.
However, the Noah driver succumbed to the injuries this morning, bringing the number of deceased to 5.
Kigozi says that eyewitness accounts indicate that the Noah driver swerved from his lane and rammed into the taxi and it is unclear what could have led to such.
“Nobody knows why this happened but as I speak now, our traffic officers are still investigating the cause of this accident” Kigozi narrated to Howwe.Biz.
He promises that police are trying to identify the deceased and injured so as to get their next of kin.
Other accidents that happened over the weekend include that of one person that was killed and another injured critically during the Mbarara rally on Sunday.
Police identified the deceased as Benson Tumusiime, a boda boda rider and his passenger, Innocent Kabigumira.
Meanwhile, four people also died on spot and seven others escaped with minor injuries following an accident at Agu Bridge along Ngora- Serere road.
Michael Odongo, the East Kyoga Region Police spokesperson, says the accident victims were traveling in taxi registration number UAX 958 U on Sunday morning when it lost control and knocked the bridge guards before plunging into Agu river.
Odongo says the taxi met with another at the bridge with and veered off the road. The deceased include two women, one gentleman and a child.
