Hope Clinic in charge Dr. George Bamudaziza in trouble after he was arrested by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit has closed for alleged involvement in illegal abortions.
Dr. Bamudaziza was arrested on Wednesday evening after a team of operatives from the State House Anti-Corruption Unit stormed the clinic and locked it up.
They also picked up Sumaya Kauma, the Iganga district Health Inspector. The duo was taken to Iganga Police Station but Kauma was released on bond shortly after.
According to Farouk Kirunda, the State House Media Management Officer, there have been several complaints about illegal abortions and use of unqualified staff.
“We had to respond to the persistent complaints from locals concerning the wrongdoing that involved even school girls. This will serve as a lesson to others out there involved in such illegalities,” he said.
Busoga East police spokesperson James Mubi says they have commenced investigations to pave way for possible prosecution, while Dr. Bamudaziza denies any wrongdoing, saying that as a qualified medical officer he is mandated to preserve rather than take lives.
