President Yoweri Museveni has called for emphasis on economic cooperation through market integration to enable Ugandan and Zimbabwean people stand on their own feet.
The president was speaking at a dinner hosted by Zimbabwsean President Emmerson Munangagwa and first lady Mai Auxillia Mnangagwa in Harare last evening.
Mr. Museveni is on a two days' working visit to Zimbabwe on the invitation of H.E Mnangagwa. While speaking to the Zimbabwean officials at dinner last evening, president Museveni said one of the 10 strategic bottlenecks is market integration.
Adding that Zimbabwe and Southern Africa at large have got a good potential to trade with East Africa and empower our people economically using the standard gauge railway as a stimulus.
“I proposed that a joint commission be established with the task of promoting economic cooperation between Zimbabwe and Uganda. We toasted to continued relations, peace and prosperity of the people of Zimbabwe and Uganda” Museveni said.
Today, President Museveni will officiate at the 60th Zimbabwe International Trade Fair (ZITF) in Bulawayo.
