The forum for democratic for change, FDC Party’s People’s Government under the leadership of Col. Dr. Kiiza Besigye is in talks with the People Power pressure group as they forge a working relationship.
FDC Party Chairman Amb. Wasswa Birigwa clarified that the talks are between People power and the people’s government and FDC is not involved. He adds that People’s government is not a party.
“The discussion is ongoing, and we shall come out with a statement in future, but we are willing and looking forward to working with all other groups as long as their interest is to see that this regime goes” he noted.
In the past, people power supporters were accused of attacking the people’s government leader, and former FDC Party President Col. Dr. Kiiza Besigye after a talk show at a local Radio station.
This brewed bad blood between FDC and the pressure group, prompting the former to warn the latter that they would retaliate if provoked. The ongoing talks are meant to avoid such attacks in future and forge a better working relationship.
The two groups also clashed when the people power leader, also Kyadondo East MP, Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine interrupted an FDC rally that was being addressed by Dr. Besigye during the Arua elections in August 2018.
The incident caused a lot of criticism for the pressure group and Bobi Wine as an individual, forcing him to apologize. The Besigye-Bobi relationship was then questioned by many of their fans.
However, two gentlemen have since worked out their differences and appeared to have no grudge at all public gatherings. There is hope, that by working together, they may be able to win an election against president Yoweri Museveni and take over leadership of the country.
