Uganda’s Foreign Affairs Minister Hon. Sam Kutesa Kahamba will on Monday 16th September lead a delegation from Uganda to Kigali Rwanda for the meeting of Ad Hoc commission for the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding signed by Presidents Yoweri Museveni and Paul Kagame in Angola recently.
The duo signed an MOU on August 21st in Luanda Angola to normalize relations between the two countries. This MOU provided for the establishment of an Ad Hoc Commission for its implementation.
“The meeting of the Ad Hoc Commission for the implementation of the MOU will be held in Kigali, Rwanda on Monday 16th September 2019” a statement from Ofwono Opondo the government spokesperson reads.
On February 27th, Rwanda closed its Gatuna Border to Uganda under the guise of renovations. It would later emerge that the closure was political. Several people have been killed by alleged Rwandan soldiers as they attempted to cross the border to Uganda in search for food.
During their meeting in Luanda Angola last month, Museveni and Kagame agreed to put their differences aside and open the borders, however, they remain closed.
