Three people are dead and three others critically injured after a vehicle lost control and rammed into them at Kagungwaine in western division, Rukungiri municipality on Monday.
Bannet Atwijukyire, the Officer-in-charge of traffic at Rukungiri police station says the incident occurred at around 6:30am when an Isuzu ELF truck registration number UAM 641N that was heading to Kagungwaine from Rukungiri town lost control and knocked a group of women.
The truck driver is identified as Hamlet Kamutima. The women were returning to their homes from overnight prayers from one of the churches in Rukungiri town.
According to Atwijukyire, three women whose identities are not yet known died on the spot, while the injured have been identified as Mercy Komuntare, Kedress Kahunzire and another only identified as Tumwebaze, all residents of Nyakagyeme Sub county in Rukungiri district.
The injured were rushed to Nyakibaale hospital and bodies of the deceased were taken to Rwakabengo health centre II mortuary for postmortem.
After the incident, the yet to be identified driver of the vehicle run away.
He driver was over speeding when he knocked them.
