A team of Administrators from Uganda Police Force has held a meeting with the Uganda Communication Commission (UCC) and Telecom operators over multiple &  illegal Sim-cards registration.

The team led by Deputy Inspector General of Police Major General Muzeyi Sabiti yesterday met officials from MTN, Airtel, Africell, Smile among others  and officials from Uganda Communications Commission over incidents of unlawful multiple simcard registration that may facilitate crime in different parts of the country.

According to Polly Namaye the Deputy Police Spokesperson, the meeting resolved that all telecom companies should put in place mechanisms to close monitor registration of simcards so as to protect customers' data from being misused.

One task team was also put in place to review ways in which simcard registration can further be enhanced to promote safety and security of users and the general public.

Another task team was formed to steer the process of decongesting the 999 emergency system of unnecessary or false callers  to ensure faster and more accurate response  by the Police in emergency situations.

The meeting was attended by the Managing Director UCC engineer Mutabazi and representatives from all telecom operators in Uganda namely MTN, Airtel, Africel, Smile, Orange etc.
