The Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga has this afternoon asked the Kilak North Member of Parliament, Anthony Akol to leave the chambers self-quarantine following his admission to having visited South Korea and South Africa, some of the countries where CoronaVirus has been confirmed.

During the Thursday plenary, Hon. Akol told the house that he wasn’t checked when he arrived at Entebbe International Airport just like the case was in other countries on his route.

This prompted the Kasilo County MP, Elijah Okupa to wonder if it was procedurally right to let Akol stay in the house yet he hasn’t self-quarantined for 14 days.

The speaker in her ruling ordered Akol to exit the house and self-quarantine for the mandatory 14 days.

"You admitted on the Hansard that you traveled to these places. Please go and self-quarantine” the Speaker said.

Robinah Nabbanja, the State Minister for Health-General Duties, told parliament that there  is vigorous screening of all travelers entering the country at Entebbe International Airport and that those from affected countries are quarantined for 14 days.

Meanwhile, state minister for Sports Hon. Denis Obua says the ministry will act if advised by the health ministry, to cancel the activities planned for the Uganda Friendship week in the wake of the disease.
More than 100 countries are affected by the virus that was first confirmed in China on December 31st 2019.
