Police in Nwoya District have arrested a 25-year-old man for allegedly killing his friend while hunting in Murchison Falls National Park.
Joseph Omara, a resident of Olony Village in Anaka Town Council reportedly speared Richard Olyel, a resident of Aparanga village in Nwoya Sub-County.
According to Denis Okema the Anaka Town Council Chairperson, the duo was poaching wildlife in the park on Thursday afternoon, when Omara missed his target, a wild animal and accidentally speared Olyel, killing him instantly.
Omara handed himself over to the Local Council leaders of Olony village immediately after the incident.
Aswa River Region Police Spokesperson Patrick Jimmy Okema says that the body of the deceased is still in the Park pending evacuation and postmortem.
This morning, police officers were deployed at the suspect’s home following intelligence information that relatives of the deceased were planning a revenge attack.
