Politicians have described former Kampala City Mayor Al Hajj Nasser Ntege Sebaggala alias Seya as a good man who cared for the less fortunate.
Col Dr Kizza Besigye former FDC party President said Sebaggala was a good man, who wished others (especially, the less able) well and shared what he had generously.
“He was a witty, creative, courageous & charismatic leader. He’d a great sense of humor and was very difficult to annoy. He became a leading & articulate voice of Uganda’s marginalized young people. Though he stumbled in later years, he’s left a big mark on Uganda’s liberation struggle” Besigye wrote on his Facebook page.
The National Resistance Movement-NRM Party Secretary General Justine Kasule Lumumba also mourned Sebaggala, describing him as a unique person who had a strong heart and passion for the vulnerable people.
Lumumba said on Sunday while addressing the media at Party headquarters, that Seya associated with both the elite and the vulnerable without discrimination, and was confident with high esteem.
Sebaggala also served as an advisor to President Yoweri Museveni in 2012 though the President is yet to issue any statement or message of mourning.
Sebaggala died on Saturday at International Hospital Kampala after collapsing in a bathroom at his home in Munyonyo on September 7. He was rushed to IHK where he also complained of abdominal complications.
At the time of his death, the former city mayor had joined the National Unity Platform, NUP. According to the NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine, the party is working with the family to organize a decent burial.
“Earlier, we checked on the family of our deceased elder comrade, at the International Hospital Kampala (IHK). I last spoke to Al Hajj Ssebagala on phone three days ago, and he seemed to have greatly improved. It was a great shock to wake up to the news of his passing. We are working with the family regarding funeral arrangements. Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un” Bobi Wine wrote.
Meanwhile, Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago also mourned the passing of his immediate predecessor at City Hall whom he also called an elder.
Other politicians and parties who mourned Seya include; ANT’s Mugisha Muntu, Nobert Mao of DP, FDC Party among others.
Seya will be laid to rest over the weekend.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
