Government has clarified that the country will not be locked down as earlier rumored. Several people were spreading a rumor that president Yoweri Museveni would lock the country to stop people from traveling to celebrate Christmas in their villages.

However during a press conference on Sunday afternoon, the Minister for ICT and National Guidance Hon Judith Nabakooba said there will not be any lock down.

“There will not be any lockdown during the festive season apart from the existing curfew and other SOPs” the Minister clarified.

She further noted that discotheques and music concerts are still under lockdown and not allowed to operate.

She urged all those traveling to villages to ensure that they follow all guidance on masks and social distancing, while market leaders were urged to restore hand washing facilities that existed earlier in the year.

Nabakooba added that while people will be rushing to salons for haircuts, and others using public taxis and buses they must take extra caution.

“Let us cooperate with our police force in ensuring that we maintain law and order all through the season. Let us follow COVID-19 guidelines so that we stay alive to celebrate next year’s festivities as well” she noted.

The Minister further explained that more people are succumbing to COVID-19 and not recorded because they die on communities.
