NRM Candidates vying for Parliamentary Speakership have been ordered to stop campaigning for the position, as the Party Central Executive Committee -CEC resolves the matter.
The order was pronounced by President Yoweri Museveni during a meeting with Speaker Rebecca Kadaga and her Deputy Jacob Oulanya at State House Entebbe on Monday.
The duo is vying for the speakership whose election is slated for May this year.
Last week, NRM Secretary General Kasule Lumumba directed the contenders in the two warring camps to reduce on the fire that was threatening to divide the party.
There were verbal attacks from the camps which have escalated to the extent of involving the party national chairman and president, Yoweri Museveni.
During the launch of her campaigns in Munyonyo last week, Kadaga accused the Deputy Speaker of incompetence and cowardice. Oulanya also responded with suave, sophisticated remarks that portray the outgoing speaker as a blatant liar.
She accused her deputy of absconding from duty, fearing to chair sensitive matters on the floor of the house including the removal of the presidential age limits. However, Oulanyah refuted these allegations calling them lies fabricated by the Speaker Kadaga.
The President halted campaigns and told all the aspirants to remain silent, as CEC will be the final determinant of who is fronted as the flag bearer for the NRM the Speaker and Deputy Speak race.
The President will give guidance on the way forward.
