People using the Namugongo, Kira Municipality in Wakiso District are crying foul after traffic in their area was diverted from 6:00am, to allow for easy access of Namugongo Shrine, where the body of late Kampala Archbishop His Grace Cyprian Kizito Lwanga is set to lie from morning to afternoon for public viewing.

While police in Kampala Metropolitan area made the announcement about the diversion last night, a few individuals who missed the memo attempted to use the roads on their way to work.

According to Luke Owoyesigyire the Deputy police spokesperson Kampala Metropolitan area, many people are expected to attend the public viewing, hence preparations and traffic diversion.

Traffic will be diverted to ensure that there is smooth flow of the ceremony. The diversions are as follows:
-There is a diversion at Kyaliwajala Trading Centre and Angelina Health Centre.
-The stretch between Kyaliwajala and Angelina is restricted to the public, except vehicles authorised by the security team.
-Traffic flow on Semambo Road will remain open for the motorists travelling from Naalya heading to Ssonde and Mukono side.
-The motorists travelling from Seeta to Ssonde can access Namugongo through Semambo Road and connect to Naalya or Kireka Townships.
Meanwhile, VIPs are accessing Namugongo Catholic shrines through Kyaliwajala or Angelina Health Centre and access their parking inside the shrine as they are being directed by the traffic police and security.

They are also being screened by security, and are expected to comply with both the health and security guidelines.

The general public are using Semambo Road and accessing their parking at Namugongo Primary School.

All boda bodas are restricted from passing beyond our cut off points.

All heavy trucks have been diverted at Seeta and Bweyogerere respectively.

The residents, who stay with in the cut off areas, are being allowed to exit and will be expected to use the road after the ceremony at 4:00pm.
Kireka-Kyaliwajala traffic flow is still normal.

“We urge all motorists to comply with the guidelines issued to avoid inconveniences” Owoyesigyire says.

Lwanga was found dead at his residence in Lubaga on Saturday morning after leading joint way of the Cross prayers the previous day. It was later revealed by the postmortem report that he suffered a heart attack, following a blood clot.

He has been accorded a state funeral and president Yoweri Museveni was the chief mourner at the event that took place on Tuesday, at Kololo Airstrip.

May his soul rest in eternal peace.
