The people of Dokolo South constituency are mourning their former parliamentary candidate, Daniel Okello Okello alias Dan Okello, who has succumbed to COVID-19.

Okello breathed his last at Case Clinic in Kampala where he was admitted on Tuesday upon his return from Karamoja with complaints of cough and flu. He was diabetic.

Okello was announced dead by his brother, Walter Odongo who said that he started complaining on Friday evening that he was unwell and was admitted on Tuesday morning. 
His death was also announced and confirmed by Lira NGO Forum, whose board Okello chaired. The Organization issued a statement on Wednesday to this effect.

“On behalf of NGO fraternity and friends of Okello Dan, we hereby announce his untimely death, which occurred from Kampala Case Hospital. According to his brother, the cause of death is believed to be COVID-19. We pray and stand with the family at this very trying and difficult moment. Let us wait for further communication from the family if at all we can join in during the sendoff based on SOP,” reads the statement.

The Archdeacon Dokolo archdeaconry Rev. Sylvester Ocen described Okello as a strong pillar in the protestant church, whose death is a strong blow to the church.
The Ministry of Health continues to warn members of the public about the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases across the country during the 2nd wave. The number of deaths are also on a tremendous increase.
