Each of the housing units comprise of two bedrooms, a living room, an external kitchen, and a bathroom.
The houses were constructed after some families were displaced by the construction of the escarpment road between Kyangwali and Buhuka. As part of the compensation package, CNOOC Uganda built houses for some families while others opted for cash settlement.
Speaking at the handover ceremony of the Houses, Ms Wei Chai, the Head of Corporate Affairs, CNOOC Uganda said, “the road project and the houses were constructed as part CNOOC Uganda’s commitment to achieve a win- win situation and a harmonized relationship with the host communities in its operation area”.
The handover ceremony was graced by the Permanent Secretary, Hon. Kabagambe Kaliisa, Hoima MP’s, Hoima RDC, the area LC5 chairperson, and other dignitaries.
The units at Kyangwali and Buhuka are designed specifically to encourage a real sense of 'community spirit' within a safe and secure environment. This Handover Ceremony affirms our willingness to be a good neighbor to the community in our areas of operation and commitment for a win-win situation with its stakeholders and also solidifies our status as a key oil and gas company in the region.
As an energy company with a strong sense of social responsibility, CNOOC Uganda is committed to compensate those affected by their projects and to promote development in society through environment, health, education and sports initiatives.
