Uganda Peoples defense forces Chief Political Commissar Col. Felix Kulayigye says the military is ready to protect Uganda’s territory from within and outside attacks.
Appearing on local TV NBS this morning, Kulaigye said they will act accordingly, in case of an attack from within the country.
He was reacting to a question from yesterday’s ugly scenes that saw FDC Presidential candidate Col. Dr. Kiiza Besigye arrested as he attempted to access Nasser road where he was scheduled to hold a rally.
According to Kulaigye, Dr Besigye should have followed police directives not to hold a procession through the city, though he declined to comment more on the issue claiming he is not a police officer.
He also said the army guaranteed peace and security ahead and after the elections arguing that nobody will be allowed to cause any mayhem.
Kulaigye explains that role of Police is to maintain law & order, which order is created by military, so “the moment the order is destroyed, its creators come in.”
He also says the army will not deploy at any polling stations as this is outside its jurisdiction, but will come in if at any point, the police requests them to.
