The Democratic Party, DP has added a voice to other parties and politicians to condemn last week’s shootings in Kasese that left 6 people dead.
Addressing the press at their city house offices in Kampala this afternoon, the party President Norbert Mao said they condemn the continued demployment of the police and army everywhere and predicted the deadly repercussions sometime back, prior to elections.
Mao also says the party identifies with the families of the affected people and condemns such actions. “The armed policemen and army attacked to kill unarmed Ugandans. There was no need of shooting to kill. What happened to pepper spray, teargas, and rubber bullets?” Mao wondered.
According to Mao, by shooting the civilians, the police greatly erred. He argues that Minister Rose Akol, IGP Kale Kayihura and his men should be held responsible for these crimes against humanity individually.
The police however insist the shootings were in self defense, and within the laws governing the force.
