Australian- based Ugandan cardiologist, Dr. Aggrey Kiyingi is smiling ear to ear after all charges that had been slapped against him were withdrawn this morning, by the DPP.
The Director of public prosecution (DPP) Mike Chibita had formerly charged Dr. Kiyingi with terrorism, murder, and crimes against humanity.
He was being charged alongside 31 others last year for their alleged involvement in the murder of Muslim clerics across the country.
Appearing before the International Crime Division of High Court this morning, Charles Richard Kaamuli, the Principal State Attorney told the presiding judge Justice Duncan Gaswaga that the DPP has dropped and immediately discontinued the charges against Dr. Kiyingi.
However, Kaamuli did not give any reasons for this unexpected change of events. Dr. Kiyingi had initially planned to take part in the recently concluded presidential election as a candidate, a dream he never lived to achieve.
Meanwhile, the accused had earlier on in a You Tube video denied the charges, claiming it was a ploy by the Museveni government to frustrate his efforts to rule this country as president.
