The opposition Forum for democratic change party has officially written to the speaker of parliament confirming the appointment of Winnie Kiiza, the Kasese woman MP as the leader of opposition in the 10th parliament.
The development comes after speaker Rebecca Kadaga, dismissed Winnie’s earlier appointment claiming the party secretary general had not confirmed it.
Now, in a letter dated June 6th and addressed to the speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga, FDC party president Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu appointed Winnie Kiiza the leader of opposition in the 10th parliament, Hon. Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda as the opposition chief whip, and Hon. Atim Ogwal Cecilia as the parliamentary commissioner.
Parliament’s activities were at a standstill with the speaker arguing that without an opposition leader, they could not move forward.
Kadaga also said they needed a LOP to seek permission to shift some NRM members from their sitting area to that of opposition, since NRM legislators are so many and could not fit in their designated area.
The appointments come amid in fighting with a faction of party leaders going against Muntu’s decisions claiming it is like accepting defeat.
