H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, president of the republic of Uganda, and chairman NRM has this afternoon officially opened the 2016 leadership retreat at Kyankwanzi leadership institute.
The president delivered a keynote speech focusing mostly on the economy and African relations to ministers, members of the NRM central executive committee and permanent Secretaries who are attending the one week retreat.
Members travelled to Kyankwanzi yesterday and settled in. the president’s speech was supposed to be first on agenda this morning at 8:30am, only for it to be pushed as he did not arrive until afternoon.
The president told members that ‘accepting African refugees is part of the solidarity with our African brothers and sisters – ideology.’ The president explained that refugees are allowed into the country because it is part of Uganda’s ideology to support African brothers and sisters.
He observes; “Our belief is that these borders should not be there.”
On the economic side, the president said Uganda’s trade with European Union brings in $433M, while African countries contribute 2bn$.
He explains that African leaders are very serious when it comes to trade, and while negotiating deals with Europe and the USA, the support each other.
This unity of Africans is not just for settlement but for survival and prosperity.”
