The electoral commission has rolled out a program to be followed as new districts of Omoro, Kagadi, Kakumiro, Kibaale and Rubanda go to polls to elect MPs and LC5 chairpersons.
During a press briefing at the commission’s head offices in Kampala this morning, Eng. Badru Kiggundu, the EC chairperson said all was set for Monday’s elections.
He revealed that the commission will dispatch the polling kits to the districts starting Saturday August 27th 2016. Thereafter, Eng. Kiggundu says there will be internal distribution of materials to all sub counties for eventual distribution to polling stations, to ensure polling begins on time.
“Designated candidates’ candidates are advised to report to the Sub county offices before 6:00am on the morning of Monday 29th August 2016, and observe the dispatch of the polling kits to their respective polling stations” Said Kiggundu.
He also announced that campaigns end on Saturday, while voting shall be by adult suffrage, and shall take place at all polling stations in the respective districts, beginning at 7:00am to 4:00pm.
“Thereafter, counting of votes and announcing of results by the respective presiding officer shall take place.”
Kiggundu also called upon political parties and independent candidates to appoint in writing and deploy their agents at polling stations in each respective district.
Candidates have since 1st August been campaigning for Woman MP and LCV seats. Also party leaders (presidents) took time off to campaign for their respective
candidates.
President Museveni has campaigned in Rubanda, Kagadi, and he today campaigned in Kibaale, while the two FDC teams of Dr. Kiiza Besigye and the other one headed by Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu campaigned in the same areas before.
