FDC president Maj. Gen. Mugisha Muntu wants Gen. Kale Kayihura, the IGP to explain why opposition Uganda people’s congress; UPC party was allowed to hold parallel independence day celebrations, contrary to attending National celebrations at Luuka district.
Last week, police swore not to allow any opposition party to hold its own celebrations, barricaded opposition leaders at their homes, and arrested Besigye on Independence day to foil their initial plans to hold celebrations at Katwe play grounds in Kampala.
But, the UPC party members were allowed a luxury to hold their own celebrations in Lira, and Muntu believes this was so unfair.
“We heard the regime saying that there is no way you could have parallel celebrations. Fortunately enough, I will wait to hear what Gen. Kayihura will be saying because I saw him on TV saying there was no way there could be any other celebrations other than the official one” Muntu said.
He added that “yesterday I saw another celebration in Lira by a registered party UPC which is legitimate and as it should have been.”
Muntu says FDC wrote to police asking for permission to hold their activities but were bounced. He believes all Ugandans should have been given a chance to celebrate however they wanted and in which ever place they wanted to.
